President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially sworn in Esther Walson-Jack as the new Head of Civil Service of the Federation, succeeding Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan, who has retired from the role.
The swearing in took place during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday presided over by the President at the Council Chamber.
The event was also marked as a valedictory ceremony for the outgoing HoS, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan.
Yemi-Esan, who was appointed as the acting head of civil service on September 18, 2019, by former President Muhammadu Buhari, replaced the suspended Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita. Over the years, she transitioned from acting to a confirmed position, where she served until her recent retirement.
In a Town Hall meeting organized by the Joint Union Negotiating Council (JUNC) in her honor, Yemi-Esan expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the nation in such a critical role. Reflecting on her tenure, she said, โI thank God for the opportunity to serve my country. I never dreamt to become the Head of Service of the Federation if not the hand of God who made it. I also want to thank former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu who made my work easier for me.โ
She further acknowledged the support of her colleagues, stating, โMy transformative Permanent Secretaries are not left out as they are dedicated and hardworking to give me the needed support.โ
Esther Walson-Jack now steps into the role, taking on the responsibility of leading Nigeriaโs civil service under President Tinubuโs administration.
