Woman Who Tore Husband’s Passport Breaks Silence, Reveals Issues Behind Act

Mrs. Igiebor, the woman who made headlines for tearing her husband’s Nigerian passport at Lagos Airport, has spoken out about the reasons behind her controversial actions.

In a video released on Monday, Igiebor, a content creator known for sharing family content on TikTok, explained that long-standing family issues had led her to this drastic measure.

“This issue has been going on for a long time. And I had to do what I did. Don’t just look at my actions alone. I’m not a mad woman. I have gone through so many things. I have my own reasons,” Igiebor stated in the video. She emphasized that her actions were a response to enduring emotional pain and unresolved issues within her marriage.

According to Igiebor, the decision to tear her husband’s passport was influenced by a desire to prevent him from returning to Europe.

“What if I had done this thing in Europe, where we came from? I don’t want him to go through much stress, which is why I did it in Nigeria. So many people at the airport that day saw me acting. It has been a family issue all the time. My husband even cannot speak about it,” she added.

Igiebor apologized to Nigerians and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) for her actions, while also expressing frustration over her husband’s alleged neglect of her in favor of his family.

“My husband is a mother’s boy, sister’s and brother’s best brother. Making me, the wife, suffer. I did what I did for him to know that I’ve been bearing the pain,” she explained.

Although Igiebor did not provide detailed specifics about the events leading to the incident, she hinted at deep-seated family tensions. The viral video of her tearing the passport on Saturday, August 10, 2024, shocked many, with her defiant remark, “Is it your passport?” further fueling public outrage.

In response, the Nigeria Immigration Service has launched an investigation into the matter.

According to a statement issued by NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, the act could constitute a violation of Section 10(b) of the Immigration Act 2015 (as amended), which prohibits the willful destruction of Nigerian travel documents.

The NIS emphasized its commitment to enforcing the law to protect national security and maintain the integrity of Nigeria’s legal and diplomatic instruments.

The incident has sparked widespread debate and highlighted the emotional strain that unresolved family issues can impose on individuals, sometimes leading to extreme actions.

As the investigation by the NIS continues, the public awaits further developments in this unfolding story.
