What Top INEC Official Did Moments Before He Collapsed, Died (PHOTOS)

Indication has emerged concerning what the deceased official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Niyi Ijalaye did before he sudden death.

Ijalaye who was the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in Ogun State, has passed away earlier on Monday.

He reportedly collapsed and died on Monday evening after attending a meeting of RECs at INECโ€™s headquarters in Abuja. According to a source within Ogun INEC who requested anonymity, the Ondo-born REC returned to his hotel room after the meeting, where the incident occurred.

During the meeting, which was chaired by INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Ijalaye was dressed in a blue-striped kaftan and a red cap and actively participated in all discussions. The meeting focused on the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, as well as the seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.

Ijalaye was appointed as Ogun Stateโ€™s REC in March 2022, following the transfer of his predecessor, Olusegun Agbaje, to Lagos State.

As of now, INEC has not yet issued an official statement confirming his death.
