Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, hosted members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
This meeting is seen as an effort to put to rest months of speculation that Fubara was planning to leave the party.
The PDP BoT delegation was led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, and included prominent party members such as former PDP Chairman, Ahmed Makarfi, elder statesmanย Olabode George, and Senator Abdul Ningi.
Their visit aimed to mend fences and strengthen old alliances amid rising concerns about Governor Fubaraโs loyalty to the party.
Despite increasing pressure on Fubara to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), the governor has remained tight-lipped about his future political plans.
However, during the meeting, he expressed doubts about his status within the PDP, given the ongoing rumors about his defection.
He acknowledged that the visit from the BoT members had reassured him that he was still recognized as a PDP member.
Governor Fubara stated, โWhat is important this afternoon is that we are still members of the party, and the owners of the party have visited us. So, for those people outside who are carrying all sorts of rumors and propaganda, at least, this visit will put that propaganda to rest and tell the world that we still remain members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).โ
Senator Adolphus Wabara, speaking on behalf of the BoT, emphasized the partyโs concern about losing Rivers State to opposition forces and reiterated the importance of keeping the state firmly within the PDPโs control.
