The former Deputy Speaker, Anambra House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Ikechukwu Harford Oseke, has reportedly died at age of 64.
Oseke, who celebrated his last birthday on July 27, was said to have collapsed during his morning routine exercise at Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
Sources told Blueprint that the former lawmaker was formally pronounced dead at a nearby hospital where other sports enthusiasts and sympathisers rushed him to and his body has been deposited at Apex Medical Centre in Awka.
Born in 1960, Oseke, who hailed from Umuawulu in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State, represented Awka South 2 at the State House of Assembly from 2011 to 2019 under the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
He, however, contested to represent Awka North and Awka South Federal House constituency in the House of Representatives primary under APGA but lost out to late Anayo Nnebe, who eventually became the party’s flag bearer and lost to the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate, Hon. Samuel Onwuaso, at the main election.
Oseke, who was into freight forwarding industry in Port Harcourt and importation of fishing feeds, read law and recently completed a Ph.D. in Public Administration.
He was survived by wife, children and others relatives.
Two former lawmakers from Anambra state – Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and Hon. Nnebe passed on recently in similar fashion.
