Arsenal has reportedly reignited their interest in Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, holding fresh discussions with the player’s representatives, Soccernet.ng reports.
Osimhen has been one of the most sought-after players in the 2024 summer transfer window, drawing attention from several top European clubs, including Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
The Gunners were initially keen on securing the services of the Nigerian international, but Napoli’s hefty release clause proved to be a significant stumbling block, deterring even the most financially robust clubs, including Arsenal.
Despite previously stepping back from negotiations, Arsenal, according to Il Mattino, have now resumed their pursuit of Osimhen. However, while the renewed interest is a positive sign for the Gunners, they have yet to make an official bid to Napoli.
The North London club appears to be carefully considering their options before committing to a formal offer for the prolific forward.
Paris Saint-Germain has been leading the race to sign Osimhen, with the French giants being one of the few clubs capable of meeting Napoli’s steep asking price.
However, PSG’s plans have recently been disrupted after star striker Gonçalo Ramos underwent surgery on his left ankle following an injury during their Ligue 1 opener against Le Havre. This unexpected setback has temporarily halted their pursuit of Osimhen.
With PSG’s interest on hold, Arsenal now faces competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, who are also looking to bolster their attack ahead of the 2024–25 season.
Both London clubs are eager to add the Nigerian goal machine to their ranks, but with Napoli holding firm on their valuation, the battle for Osimhen’s signature is far from over.
