GOC Tasks Troops On Combat Readiness, Proficiency In Modern Warfare 

General Officer Commanding 6 Division Nigerian Army and Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force (South-South) Operation Delta Safe, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, has charged troops on Combat Readiness, proficiency in modern warfare, tasking them with securing national infrastructure and ensuring the smooth execution of strategic operations.

Represented by Brigadier General Sani Ahmed, Commander 6 Division Garrison and Sector 3 Joint Task Force, Major General Abdussalam gave the directive during the flag-off of the Inter Brigade Combat Proficiency Competitions for formations under 6 Division.

The competition features four participating formations: 2 Brigade, Uyo, Akwa Ibom; 16 Brigade, Bayelsa; 63 Brigade, Asaba, Delta State; and 6 Division Garrison, Port Harcourt Barracks.

The event aimed to test the combat readiness and proficiency of troops in the 6 Division, ensuring they are equipped to protect national infrastructure and maintain operational efficiency.

In his address, Maj Gen Abdussalam emphasized the importance of combat proficiency in modern warfare, stating that the skills displayed are crucial for the success of missions and the security of national infrastructure in the South-South region.

He said: “This event holds profound significance, not only as a testament to the athletic ability of our officers but also as a critical reflection of their operational readiness and effectiveness.”

He added: “In the dynamic and ever-evolving landscape of modern warfare, the ability to navigate and thrive in combat environments has become increasingly crucial. As officers of the 6 Division, you are the guardians of our nation’s most vital asset within the South South, tasked with securing our national infrastructure and ensuring the seamless flow of ‘strategic operations.”

Also, in his closing remarks, after the five-day event, which featured officers showcasing their combat skills, including swimming, rescue operations, and combat assaults, Obstacle crossing, Aiming and shooting, 3.5 km fitness race etc, Abdussalam highlighted these reflect their dedication and commitment to serving the nation.

He, however,expressed pride and honour in the participants’ dedication, skill, and spirit, while acknowledging the challenging events designed to test physical and mental capabilities.

Meanwhile,  the 6 Division Garrison clinched the 1st position, 2 Brigade took 2nd position; 16th Brigade came 3rd; 63 Brigade came 4th.

While he congratulated the winners, noting their victory reflects hard work, perseverance, and commitment to the profession of arms. He encouraged those who didn’t emerge victorious to use the experience as a learning opportunity to improve and return stronger.

The General urged participants to uphold the Chief of Army Staff’s principles of discipline, professionalism, training, and innovation, promoting a culture of friendship, mutual support, and shared responsibility within their units.
