BREAKING: Edo 2024: Ighodalo remains PDP candidate – Appeal Court rules

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which had directed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to include 381 ad-hoc delegates in the February 22, 2024, primary election.

The primary election, which has already been conducted, resulted in Asue Ighodalo being selected as the PDP candidate for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State.

On Monday, a three-member panel of the appellate court nullified the judgment of Justice Inyang Edem Ekwo, delivered on July 4, ruling that the lower court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case brought by the aggrieved delegates.

The Court of Appeal also determined that the plaintiffs did not have the legal standing to initiate the suit.

The appellate court emphasized that the Federal High Court does not have the authority to interfere in the PDP’s candidate selection process for the Edo State governorship election.
