Police Kill Two Suspected Bandits, Rescue 5 Kidnap Victims In Katsina

The Katsina State police command has affirmed the killing of two suspected bandits during an attack on Layin Minister village in Malumfashi Local Government Area of the state.

The Katsina police spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu revealed in a statement on Monday that five kidnap victims were rescued by officers deployed to the spot after they engaged the robbers in a gun battle.

Aliyu stated the cops overwhelmed the bandits, and many of them escaped the scene with bullet injuries.

โ€œOn August 25, 2024, at about 1000 hrs, a distress call was received at the Malumfashi divisional police headquarters about a bandit attack on Layin Minister village, Malumfashi LGA, kidnapping five (5) people.

โ€œUpon receipt of the report, operatives were quickly dispatched to the scene.

โ€œOn noticing the presence of the police operatives, the hoodlums opened fire on the operatives, to which the team responded gallantly.

โ€œAll the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued unhurt as the assailants succumbed to the superior firepower of the operatives and fled the scene with various degrees of bullet injuries,โ€ the statement read.

In an additional development, police killed two suspected bandits during a raid on the Marabar Kankara hamlet in Malumfashi LGA.

The statement said the criminals, who arrived on twelve motorcycles, were loaded with lethal weapons and began shooting uncontrollably.

โ€œOn receipt of the information, DPO Malumfashi swiftly mobilised operatives and responded to the scene,โ€ he said.

โ€œThe team gallantly engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun duel and successfully foiled the attack.

โ€œIn the course of scanning the scene, the bodies of two neutralised suspected armed bandits were recovered from the scene.โ€

The police spokesperson stated that the command has increased efforts to capture the fleeingย individuals.
