Liverpool winger Mohamed Salah has revealed that he is not thinking about his future at Anfield and that he just wants to focus on enjoying the last year of his contract, Soccernet.football reports.
The Egyptian is one of three key players on expiring deals, including Trent Alexander-Arnold and skipper Virgil van Dijk, all of whom will be free to enter negotiations with clubs overseas at the turn of the year.
Contract negotiations with the trio stalled last season due to the unexpected news of Jurgen Klopp’s departure. The Reds then shifted their focus to securing a new manager and restructuring their sporting hierarchy to close out the season.
Although Salah is content at Liverpool, the 31-year-old acknowledges that he wants to enjoy the “final year” of his contract before deciding on his future.
“I think with time, you get wiser,” he told Sky Sports. “Before the season I was like, ‘Okay, I have one year left, so let’s enjoy it. Don’t think about the contract now. Don’t think about anything’.
“I don’t want to think about next year. I don’t want to think about the future. Let’s enjoy the last year [of his contract] and then we’ll see.
“Just take one day at a time, be grateful to be here and that’s it. “
Salah has drawn considerable interest from Saudi Arabia, as has Van Dijk, who also emphasized his intent to stay focused on the current season before considering his future.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be eager to secure commitments from Salah, Van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold as quickly as possible, as all three are immensely valuable assets who could potentially leave for free at the end of the season.
