The Nigeria Police Force has issued a fresh summons to the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, and the General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, to appear at Force Headquarters on September 5, 2024.
This development comes less than 24 hours after Ajaero honored a previous police invitation over accusations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.
The latest summons requires Ajaero and Ugboaja to answer questions related to alleged criminal intimidation, conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace, and malicious damage to properties.
The invitation has been extended by the Force Intelligence Department (FID) of the Nigeria Police Force at the Force Headquarters.
The ongoing police scrutiny of the NLC leadership marks a significant escalation in the authoritiesโ approach towards the labor union, raising concerns about the underlying tensions between the NLC and the government.
