Ahead of the October 5th local government election in Rivers State, the Labour Party has started grassroots politics, reaching out to different communities to garner support for the party.
The people of Oroworukwo community in Phalga Ward 9, Port Harcourt, are not left out, as Mr. Christian Amehule Ojukwu, on Saturday, September 7, started consultation efforts, presenting their councilorship candidate, Stanley Chimenem Agbirigba, to the community, its stakeholders, and different families, in preparation for the upcoming election.
During the event, Mr. Ojukwu formally introduced Agbirigba to the Oroworukwo community’s Council of Elders and other key families, seeking their support for the Labour Party’s candidate.
Agbirigba, a native of Oroworukwo and son of the late Mr. Cyprain Emenike Agbirigba, expressed his commitment to bring about positive changes if elected.
“I will bring positive change to Oroworukwo, and it will touch every family. I need your support in this election, and I promise not to disappoint. I will raise the name of Oroworukwo in the council,” Agbirigba pledged.
Chief Elder Victor Nyeche, former President General of the Council of Elders, offered his advice, acknowledging the challenges in politics but expressing hope for Agbirigba’s candidacy.
“Politics today is different from what it used to be. Things have gone bad in government, but I hope you will represent Oroworukwo well in the council,” Nyeche said.
Other community leaders, including Mr. Iche George Wami, Chairman of the Oroworukwo Welfare Committee, and Mr. Sunny Mgba, Chairman of the Mgba Family, also advised Agbirigba to stay true to his promises if elected.
“You are going to represent Oroworukwo, a small but significant part of Nigeria. We know you to be a peaceful person, and we want you to do well. God will help you,” Mgba added.
Elder Wobasi Ogbu of the Kpalukwu-Ozu family pledged his support for Agbirigba’s candidacy, while members of the Igiri family, including Kingsely and Richie Igiri, emphasized the importance of peaceful conduct during the campaign and the role of faith in Agbirigba’s success.
The Labour Party delegation also visited the Worlu family, where Stanley Agbirigba received further endorsements. Mr. Sunny Ogbondamati and the family’s chairman, Kingsley Okwu-Worlu, both affirmed their support.
“You are qualified, and not only because you are our in-law. We will give you our full support,” Okwu-Worlu said.
The consultation concluded with a visit to the Wami family, where Mr. Aka Wami, Vice Chairman of the family, reiterated the importance of delivering on campaign promises.
“We pray that if you win, you will do it the way you’ve told us,” Wami said.
With the Labour Party’s ongoing efforts to connect with Oroworukwo’s leaders and families, the party hopes to solidify support ahead of the October local government elections.
