Charles Soludo, the Governor of Anambra State, has refuted claims that he dismissed one of his aides for allegedly leaking a video of himself participating in the viral ‘gwo gwo ngwo’ dance challenge.
On September 6, reports surfaced suggesting that a staff member was terminated for filming Soludo while he took part in the popular dance challenge.
However, the governor’s press secretary, Christian Aburime, has labeled these reports as “unfounded.”
In a statement released on Monday, Aburime clarified the situation, stating, “The attention of the Anambra state government has been drawn to a false and misleading news story circulating on social media and some online platforms, claiming that the governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, recently fired an aide who allegedly leaked a video of the governor briefly participating in the ‘gwo gwo’ dance challenge.”
Aburime firmly rejected the dismissal claim, asserting, “We wish to categorically state that this report is completely untrue and unfounded. No aide has been fired by the governor over the viral dance video.”
He explained that the individual rumored to have been dismissed was actually redeployed “as part of a routine government reshuffle and not due to the leaked video.”
The press secretary further elaborated that the ‘gwo gwo’ dance video, which had been positively received on social media, was captured spontaneously after Governor Soludo addressed the press on Anambra State’s 33rd anniversary.
“We strongly condemn the false and misleading news story, which is clearly the work of some mischievous elements attempting to disparage the person and achievements of Governor Soludo and distract him from his ongoing efforts to transform Anambra State,” Aburime said.
He urged those spreading false information to “desist from such malicious activities” and allow the governor to concentrate on his governance duties.
