The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that the state congresses recently held in 12 states, including Rivers, are currently under examination.
The party noted that this review process is still in progress and has not yet reached a conclusion.
Naija News reports that the congresses, which occurred over the weekend, have been met with grievances from various states, such as Rivers, Benue, Katsina, and Kogi.
In Rivers, the Congress proceeded despite a standing court order prohibiting the event.
This situation has sparked a conflict between the National Working Committee (NWC), which sanctioned the congress, and the PDP Governors Forum, which contends that Governor Siminalayi Fubara should continue as the party leader in the state.
Additionally, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, along with his faction, is asserting dominance over the party’s structure following the congress that the state governor and his allies boycotted.
Nevertheless, the PDP has affirmed that the party’s governing bodies will review the process.
“There are processes and procedures for establishing state chapters and other party organs. We acknowledge that there are conflicting orders, and as a party of the rule of law, we strive to comply with court orders to avoid anarchy,” PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, mentioned in a statement made available to newsmen.
Ologunagba elaborated on the review process, stating, “When congresses are held, there are procedures, including the formation of an appeal panel to address any disputes. These issues are reviewed by the NWC, which will then make a decision. The process is not yet complete and will eventually be subject to ratification by the National Executive Committee (NEC).”
He pointed out that the review encompasses Rivers State and all other impacted states.
“We have received complaints from Benue, Katsina, Kogi, and Ekiti as well,” he noted.
Ologunagba stressed that it would be misleading to focus solely on Rivers State.
He stated that every complaint will be subjected to the party’s review process.
Ologunagba highlighted the importance of exercising caution due to the current court cases, saying, “The PDP must proceed with care and be appropriately guided by the legal proceedings. These matters are being handled as part of the ongoing process.”
