Ghana’s national football team, the Black Stars, may play their next AFCON 2025 qualifying home game in Nigeria after a chaotic scene unfolded during their recent match against Angola.
During the match at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, tensions escalated when Ghana conceded a heartbreaking 93rd-minute goal, leading to a 1:0 defeat in their opening AFCON 2025 Qualifiers. Disgruntled Ghanaian fans stormed the pitch, throwing bottles and other objects in frustration.
The aftermath of the unruly behavior prompted swift action from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
In response, CAF barred Ghana from hosting any further matches on home soil and instructed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to find an approved venue outside the country for their next qualifier, scheduled against Sudan in October.
Reports from Ghana indicate that the Black Stars are considering Nigeria as a host nation for their upcoming fixture, with the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo emerging as the likely venue.
If confirmed, this will mark a significant moment for Ghana, playing a crucial home qualifier away from their own fans and on foreign soil, as they look to recover from the Angola defeat and push towards qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament.
