The Federal Ministry of Works has reopened the Sabon Gari section of the Kano-Maiduguri road in Bauchi State, following severe damage caused by recent flooding.
The intervention comes as part of a swift response to an alarming report on the disaster’s impact on the local community and road users.
The heavy flooding, attributed to climate change, had created significant challenges for residents and travellers.
In response, President Bola Tinubu ordered immediate action to address the crisis.
NewsNGR recalls that the Minister of Works, David Umahi, led the effort by visiting the affected area on August 15, 2024, to assess the damage and initiate emergency measures.
The Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works, Barrister Orji Uchenna Orji, in Abuja on Thursday, stated that the Federal Ministry of Works has completed emergency repairs, allowing the road to be reopened for use as of September 12, 2024.
He noted that the development was part of ongoing measures to provide both immediate relief and long-term solutions to the road’s critical condition.
Orji expressed gratitude to Tinubu for his decisive action and commended Umahi’s dedication to resolving the road’s issues.
