THE third edition of the annual annual Cross Country Poetry Celebration (CCPC) has been slated for Saturday October 26.
With the theme, The Power and Pleasure of Poetry, the event will hold at 3pm with the Nigeria’s most garlanded poet ;aureate, Niyi Osundare as keynote speaker; and te popular spoken word artist, Dike Chukwumerije as special guest.
The CCPC aims at “having thousands read, recite or perform poetry simultaneously on an agreed date and period of time,” stated Eriata Oribhabor, the initiator of the project.
“With the abiding philosophy of taking poetry to our nation’s nooks and crannies, the initiative is envisioned as a strategic catalyst for creative change in our country,” added Oribhabor, a prolific poet himself, who is famous for his pidgin english poetry
Disclosed Orbhabor, “The moderator for CCPC 2024 is Basira Rabiu; the Most Outstanding Host of CCPC in 2023. Her impactful celebration of poetry in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state has further popularised the craft of poetry and the CCPC in her state, the northern parts of Nigeria and the country in general.”
Continued Oribhabor in his facebook post, “Notwithstanding the dire economic situation in our country, hosts and co-hosts of CCPC are determined to showcase the power and pleasure associated with poetry, the acclaimed heart and soul of literature. After the presentations of our keynote speaker and guest spoken word poet respectively, identified poets and literary minds will speak to the theme, followed by formal recognition/ celebration of poets in the various locations.
