‘I have Been Released’ – Sowore Speaks After Reported Arrest

Former Presidential candidate of the Africa Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has said he has been released.

This was after he said he had been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos upon arrival from the US.

He had said he was being detained and his passport CONFISTICATED in a post on X/Twitter.

Human Rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, had also confirmed he was arrested in a message he sent to NewsNGR on Sunday morning.

Adeyanju’s message had read, “BREAKING: SOWORE arrested by jobless and lawless Nigerian government for calling for End to Bad Governance protest.”

When asked if he was arrested at the Lagos airport he said, “Yes.”

Shortly after, Sowore who had earlier condemned being placed on the watchlist by the Nigerian security said in another message that, “I have just been RELEASED by the Nigerian Immigration after a brief detention and my passport released back to me. #RevolutionNow

Adeyanju, a lawyer who also represents Sowore in court in a message confirming his release said, “Omoyele Sowore released, passport returned to him. Aluta continua.”

NewsNGR reports that Sowore had joined the organisers of the nationwide protests against bad governance in August before jetting out of the country.

He continued to galvanise protesters from his base in the US and has announced another protest for October called FearlessInOctober.

The Nigerian government has not reacted to the development.
