The army of sympathisers trooping into Maiduguri, Borno state, to condole with the people of the state over the recent flood, increased Tuesday, with the President and Chairman of Aminu Dantata Group of Companies, Alhaji Aminu Dogo Al Hassan Dantata, donating N1.5 billion in support of the victims.
Similarly, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) announced a donation of N3 billion and food materials in support of the victims, and N50 million to the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Ibn Umar El Kanemi.
The NEDC was led by its board chairman, Gen. Paul Tafa (rtd), in company with the commission’s managing director, Ambassador Mohammed Goni Alkali and other management staff members.
These were some of the highlights of separate visits by several sympathisers, to both Governor Umara Babgana Zulum and the royal father.
Also, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi and the acting national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP, Bashir Damagum-led PDP delegation, both donated N50million N25million respectively.
Similarly, a former PDP governorship candidate, Hon. Mohammed Imam donated N50 million, while Engineer Usman Tijjani of the Borno State Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) also gave some cash and relief materials in support of the victims.
Also, Chairman Al Amana Aid Group donated N1 million and pledged more education and humanitarian services to the affected people to complement government efforts.
In the same vein, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, led other senators to Maiduguri during which the sum of N100 million was donated, while the immediate past Senate President Dr. Ahmed Lawal donated N50 million, and Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and Borno Deputy Governor Umar Usman led Southern Borno people to donate the sum of N200 million.
Also, Speaker House of Representatives Tajjudeen Abbas represented by the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Al Hassan Adi Doguwa, paid a similar visit and donated N100 million and 600 bags of rice on behalf of the Green Chamber.
Also on hand was the Taraba state delegation led by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, John Kizito Bonzina, who announced a N200million donation during the visit
In the delegation were 15 traditional rulers, 7 state lawmakers, and members of the State Executive Council, among others.
A similar visit was paid by the Mai of Potiskum, Umar Baba ram Wuriya Bariya.
Receiving the sympathisers, Governor Zulum expressed the gratitude of people of the state and assured donors that the funds and items would be put to the right use.
