As the 2024 governorship election approaches in Edo State, nine political parties have aligned themselves with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to support its candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
The announcement was made by Chief Sam Arase, Chairman of the Edo State chapter of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), who spoke on behalf of the Assembly of Registered Political Parties in Edo State.
According to Chief Arase, the parties believe that the APC will offer better leadership for the state and are confident in the party’s victory in the election, scheduled for this Saturday.
The political parties that have joined forces with the APC include the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), Accord (A), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), and the National Rescue Movement (NRM).
During the announcement, the coalition called for a peaceful, violence-free election and urged citizens of Edo State to turn out in large numbers to cast their votes.
They also directed their members to fully support and work toward the election of the APC’s candidate.
A total of 17 political parties are competing in the governorship election, which is set for Saturday, September 21, 2024.
