Catholic Church to Tinubu: Speak out on fuel price controversy

THE Catholic Church of Ibadan Archdiocese, yesterday, tasked President Bola Tinubu to speak out on the fuel price controversy between the Dangote Refinery and the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to put an end to the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

The churchโ€™s Archbishop, Most Rev. Gabriel โ€˜Leke Abegunrin said this in a chat with newsmen, in Ibadan, ahead of his 75th birthday celebration.

The cleric wondered why NNPC should be acting like middlemen dictating fuel prices for Aliko Dangote refinery.

The archbishop said: โ€œNNPC is the one creating the problem. Why canโ€™t they allow Dangote to sell fuel at a price convenient for him? If he likes, he can sell it free to the people. How can the NNPC dictate the price at which he sells his fuel? They are the ones destroying things; not Dangote.

โ€œThe Federal Government should stop that. Allow Dangote to sell his fuel at his price. Things will be better. Thereโ€™s a lot of hunger, and cheating in the country. You canโ€™t wait for the church to do everything.โ€

The clergyman also clarified that contrary to the belief of some people that schools founded by churches charge fees that are non-affordable for church members, he added that fees charged by Catholic Schools are the cheapest.
