The Nigerian Correctional Service has suspended two Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kiri-kiri, Lagos State, Michael Anugwa and Sikiru Adekunle over their unprofessional conduct in handling the case of Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
A statement issued on Thursday by the organisation’s spokesperson, Ja’afaru Ahmed, said the suspension of the affected officer was sanctioned by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
The statement said the suspension of the affected officers was to allow for further investigations.
In a video released earlier this week, activist Vincent Martins Otse (VeryDarkMan) had accused Bobrisky of offering N15 million to operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to drop money laundering charges against him, allegedly allowing him to evade a jail term at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre in Lagos.
The activist also alleged that Bobrisky did not serve his sentence at the correctional facility but was allowed to stay in a rented apartment after bribing officials at the prison.
However, Bobrisky took to his social media accounts on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, to refute the allegations.
He claimed that he had served his jail term and did not bribe EFCC officers.
Bobrisky also dismissed a viral voice recording, purportedly linked to the bribery allegations, calling it fake.
Subsequently, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, ordered a thorough investigation into allegations of bribery within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
