The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the deployment of adequate security across the city ahead of the October 1st Independence Day celebration.
The FCT Command disclosed this in a statement signed by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh on Monday.
The strategic deployment, according to the police, is aimed at ensuring that residents of the FCT enjoy a hitch-free Independence Day celebration.
โThe deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, and visibility policing, among others.
โTraffic diversions will be implemented in areas expected to experience large crowds, including Central Area and Eagle Square.
โWhile celebrating Independence Day, residents of the FCT are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements or activities to the FCT Police emergency lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653, PCB: 09022222352, CRU: 08107314192,โ the statement said.
The deployment is also believed to be timely, given the planned #EndHungerProtest scheduled to be held on the same day as the Independence celebration against bad governance.
The protest which hitherto lasted for 10 days โ From August 1 to 10 โ witnessed strong resistance from the Nigeria Police Force with no fewer than 17 people reported dead across the country and public infrastructures destroyed in six states.
