The Lagos State Government has impounded 241 unregistered vehicles at various locations across the state, in line with Sections 15 and 16 of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL) 2018.
The impoundment was carried out during an enforcement exercise by the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS), according to the state’s Ministry of Transportation. The ministry stated that the action was necessary as the vehicles were unlicensed, violating the state’s transportation regulations.
In a statement signed by Bolanle Ogunlola, Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Ministry of Transportation, it was confirmed that the impoundment aligns with the provisions of the TSRL 2018.
“The vehicles were found to be unlicensed and in violation of the state’s transportation regulations,” the statement said.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, cautioned motorists against driving unregistered vehicles, stressing that such actions undermine law enforcement’s ability to identify and track stolen vehicles or those involved in criminal activities.
Quoting Section 16 of the TSRL 2018, Osiyemi reminded motorists that driving a vehicle without proper registration or identification marks is a legal offence. He also disclosed that one of the impounded vehicles was found with a fake dealer number plate, and investigations are underway to apprehend those responsible for issuing the fraudulent plate.
The Commissioner urged all motorists to comply with the state’s traffic regulations, emphasizing that adherence would help the government maintain a safe and secure environment for all road users.
