More divisions have surfaced within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State as notable party leaders and critical stakeholders in the Ukwa-East/Ukwa-West Federal constituency have demanded that the member representing them in the House of Representatives, Chris Nkwonta immediately join the All Progressive Congress (APC).
In the general elections of 2023, Nkwonta was the only member of the House of Representatives who was elected in Abia on the PDP platform.
Following a critical stakeholdersโ meeting in Obehie, Ukwa West LGA, the PDPโs top leaders voiced their disappointment with what they described as โintractable crisesโ at the national level of the party, where PDP governors are engaged in a power struggle for party leadership.
Top PDP leaders in the state including John Ajuzieogu, Goodhope Nwagbara, and 37 others in a press release issued by the former chief of staff to the governor, Don Ubani expressed disappointment that the Abia State PDP Congress had not yet been held.
They thus ordered Chris Nkwonta to leave the PDP and instantly join the APC, stating that Nkwontaโs continuing membership in the PDP would be detrimental to his people.
The Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West PDP members, while lamenting the inadequate infrastructure in their region, expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the ongoing NDDC projects in their area.
โWe will align and holistically support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,โ the PDP stakeholdersย said.
