The Nigerian Army has taken a significant step towards enhancing the welfare of its personnel with the launch of the Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Supermarket in Port Harcourt Barracks.
Major General Jamal Abdussalam, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 6 Division, unveiled the supermarket, reaffirming the division’s commitment to prioritizing personnel welfare.
“This initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s command philosophy, which places high premium on sound administration and personnel welfare,” Major General Abdussalam said.
The NAPEX Supermarket, located within the Python Shopping Mall, aimed to provide troops and their families with a convenient and affordable shopping experience, the GOC disclosed.
In addition to the supermarket, Abdussalam noted that the Nigerian Army has concluded plans to establish a gas plant within the barracks, ensuring easy access to cooking gas at reasonable costs.
Also, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee, Major General Samson Jiya, who was the Guest of Honour, emphasized the importance of welfare in effective troop management.
“The Nigerian Army under the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff has raised the bar high in areas of troop welfare,” Major General Jiya said.
Brigadier General George Nkenke, Managing Director of NAPEX, thanked Major General Abdussalam for the initiative, citing its positive impact on troop morale and fighting spirits.
However, the NAPEX Supermarket will be run by Bakan Gizo Pharmacy and Stores Limited.
The launch event featured the unveiling of NAPEX signage, facility tours, souvenir presentations, and group photographs.
