Rivers LG Polls Projected As Beginning Of Wike’s Political Oblivion

The outcome of Saturday’s local government elections in Rivers State is a pointer that the political sojourn of Nyesom Wike is coming to an end.

Wike, the immediate past governor of Rivers State, is the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He is of the Peoples Democratic Party but serves as a senior minister in the All Progressives Congress-led federal government of President Bola Tinubu.

A former National Auditor of the PDP, Barr Ray Nnaji, in an interview in Enugu, said what played out during the LG polls was a dummy of how the 2027 general elections would be.

He said, “PDP should learn a very big lesson from the outcome. They should know what to do to Wike for causing this loss to the party. Gov Fubara never made it open that he was shifting his loyalists to the Action Peoples Party which triumphed during the polls. PDP didn’t participate in the election.”

Also speaking, Engr Nick Ozornsi, a PDP stalwart and former council chairman in Enugu State, advised Wike to “leave the stage when the ovation is high”.

Quoting him, “Nothing is permanent in life. A great man leaves the stage when the ovation is high. Wike is reaping what he planted in Rivers State.

“PDP National Working Committee should also try him because he is a spoiler in the party.

“He might be planted to create discord in PDP if left undisciplined. I also don’t think the looming cabinet reshuffle of President Tinubu will spare him.”

Speaking also, the Coordinator, of APC National Coalition for Peace in Enugu State, Ebubeagu Okafor, said, “Wike’s political dominance in Rivers State is gone with last Saturday’s LG elections.

“You can see that the Presidency didn’t also help him, otherwise the PDP-dominated state Assembly would have impeached the governor.

“Wike is permanently diminished, and his dream in 2027 is also a target.”

NewsNGR reports that the outcome of the LG elections in Rivers State showed that APP won 22 chairmanship seats while the Action Alliance won one.

Gov Fubara, who is of the PDP, had allegedly given his tacit support for APP following the hijack of the state PDP structure by Wike.
