The Senate has confirmed Mr Abdullahi Usman as the Executive Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
The confirmation was sequel to the consideration and adoption of the report of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Senator Abubakar Bello (APC-Niger North) on Thursday.
Usman was nominated by President Bola Tinubu for the position on August 19, through a statement signed by his former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
The president subsequently transmitted the request in a letter to the Senate for confirmation.
The statement described Usman as a renowned scholar, who is well-grounded in hajj operations.
The president told the senate that Usman had served as the chairman of Kano State Pilgrims Board, where he successfully oversaw the operations of the largest quota of state pilgrims in the country.
On Thursday, Senator Bello, in his report following the screening conducted by his committee, lauded Usman, stating that he merited being appointed to head the nationโs apex Hajj Body.
When the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, put his confirmation to vote, it was unanimous affirmation through voice vote.
