Financial Services Lead As NGX Records N31.51bn Turnover In Weekly Trading

Investors on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) witnessed a turnover of 2.97 billion shares valued at N31.51bn, executed across 42,482 transactions during the past week.

This marks a slight increase in trading activity compared to the previous week, which saw 2.87 billion shares worth N132.81bn traded in 39,867 deals.

The NGX All-Share Index (ASI) and Market Capitalization both recorded a marginal appreciation of 0.09 per cent, closing the week at 97,606.63 points and N56.09trn, respectively.

Despite the overall market improvement, several indices experienced declines. The NGX Main Board, NGX AFR Bank Value, NGX Consumer Goods, NGX Lotus II, and NGX Industrial Goods indices dropped by 0.28 per cent, 1.12 per cent, 1.25 per cent, 0.16 per cent, and 0.13 per cent, respectively.

The NGX ASeM and NGX Sovereign Bond indices remained flat.

The Financial Services Industry led in trading activity, accounting for 50.05 per cent of the total turnover with 1.49 billion shares worth N17.97bn exchanged in 19,613 deals.

Following closely was the Services Industry with 1.11 billion shares valued at N775.26m in 2,675 transactions. The Agriculture Industry took third place with 93.90m shares worth N1.25bn traded in 2,517 deals.

Among individual equities, Tantalizer Plc, Coronation Insurance Plc, and Fidelity Bank Plc emerged as the top three traded stocks by volume, accounting for 1.63bn shares worth N3.91bn across 1,814 deals.

These three equities represented 54.80 per cent of total turnover volume and 12.40 per cent of total value.

In terms of price performance, 29 equities appreciated in value during the week, compared to 45 in the previous week. Meanwhile, 52 equities recorded price declines, up from 33 in the previous week, while 70 equities remained unchanged, slightly lower than the 73 recorded in the prior week.

This mixed performance reflects the dynamic market conditions as investors continue to navigate varying economic factors impacting the Nigerian capital market.
