THE presidency, today, urged the heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to honor invitations from the National Assembly, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the cooperative relationship between the executive and legislative branches.
This appeal follows a recent warning from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, which threatened to issue arrest warrants against those who fail to attend its hearings.
In a statement, Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Senate Matters, stressed that cooperation between both arms of government is crucial to achieving the goals of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda aims to deliver swift and efficient governance, ensuring that the benefits of democracy reach the people without delay,” he said.
“A key element of this vision is fostering a proactive, respectful, and transparent relationship between government agencies and the Senate in its oversight functions.”
He acknowledged that conflicting official engagements may sometimes hinder agencies from responding to Senate invitations promptly but emphasized the importance of prioritizing these interactions as a sign of the government’s commitment to accountability and good governance.
“Engaging with Senate committees allows agencies to demonstrate their dedication to public service and accountability, thereby strengthening public confidence in government,” Lado added.
He further assured that his office will continue to work towards fostering constructive collaboration between Ministries, Extra-Ministerial Departments, Agencies, and the National Assembly, particularly with Senate committees, as a pillar of good governance and accountability.
