The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has removed the second-leg fixture between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights from its official schedule for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The updated fixture list, published on CAF’s X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, no longer includes the Group D match that was set to take place in Libya at 8 p.m.
This development follows the controversy surrounding the Super Eagles’ harrowing experience at a Libyan airport, where they were stranded for over 14 hours ahead of the match. The Nigerian team eventually returned home after the ordeal, leading to the cancellation of the game.
The first-leg match was held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, where Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Libya in the final minutes of the game. However, the planned return leg has been overshadowed by the treatment of the Nigerian players and officials in Libya, prompting the delisting of the fixture by CAF.
The Confederation of African Football has yet to issue an official statement regarding the status of the match or any further disciplinary actions related to the incident.
