The Delta State Police Command has issued a strong warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators, urging them to avoid transactions over ₦500,000 due to the potential risk of being involved in criminal activities, particularly kidnappings.
SP Bright Edafe, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, shared a recent case where a POS operator unknowingly facilitated a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000 to kidnappers, earning only ₦40,000 in profit.
“Don’t be a tool for kidnappers to collect ransom. It must be traced to you,” Edafe warned, adding that operators who engage in such transactions may face legal trouble.
The police emphasized the importance of adhering to federal regulations on transaction limits and reporting suspicious activities.
SP Edafe advised operators to exercise caution, stating, “Be wise, you may argue that you are doing business, but before your lawyer will get you out, you may spend some time cooling off in prison.”
This warning highlights the vital role POS operators play in preventing misuse by criminals and reinforces the need for vigilance to avoid severe consequences.
