LEICESTER City manager Steve Cooper has said Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has shaken off his ordeal in Libya and trained with the English Premier League club.
Ndidi and his Nigerian national team colleagues endured a nightmarish experience in Libya, where they had travelled to for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match on Sunday.
Their plane was diverted, they were held at the airport for over 18 hours without food, water or a place to sleep comfortably, and ended up returning to Nigeria on Monday without playing the match scheduled for Tuesday in Benghazi.
Ndidi has trained with the Leicester City side in preparation for their Premier League clash with Southampton at St Mary’s on Saturday, and Cooper is satisfied with his star midfielder’s physical and mental shape.
“He is fine, that’s the most important thing. He is back with us and safe and well. We were in close contact with him throughout the situation and he kept us updated,” Cooper said on Thursday during his pre-match press conference.
“Everyone was in contact, myself included, and thankfully the situation got resolved. He was back with us soon after and has trained since. He is in a safe place and that includes the mental side of it as well.
“He is more than happy to get back to business as usual. He trained yesterday and will train today and will be ready for the game at the weekend.”
The 27-year-old Nigeria international has starred for the Foxes this season, producing four assists in seven matches in the English top flight.
