THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Anambra governorship election for November 8, 2025.
INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this announcement today during a meeting with political parties in Abuja.
“As you know, the last governorship election in Anambra State took place on November 6, 2021,” Mahmood said. “With the passage of time, a new election is due next year. Therefore, the Commission has set Saturday, November 8, 2025, for the Anambra State Governorship election.”
He added that a formal notice for the election will be issued on November 13, 2024, with party primaries scheduled between March 20 and April 10, 2025.
“The candidate nomination portal will open at 9:00 AM on April 18, 2025, and close at 6:00 PM on May 12, 2025,” Mahmood said. “The final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, and political campaigns will begin on June 11, 2025, ending at midnight on Thursday, November 6, 2025.”
The detailed timetable and schedule for the 2025 Anambra Governorship election will be available on INEC’s website and social media, with hard copies distributed shortly, he concluded.
Meanwhile, INEC announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for next month’s governorship election in Ondo State has begun.
For five days, from October 17 to 21, 2024, PVCs will be available at the 203 wards across the state.
Afterward, they can be collected at INEC’s 18 Local Government offices from October 23 to 29, 2024. The centers will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.
