A commercial motorcyclist tragically lost his life on Thursday in an accident on Carter Bridge in Lagos State.
Reports indicate that the deceased was riding against traffic on the bridge when he collided with a fast-moving vehicle ascending Carter Bridge from Illubirin.
The impact of the collision resulted in the immediate death of the motorcyclist, while the vehicleโs driver fled the scene.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, stated that the lifeless body of the rider was retrieved by personnel from LASTMA, along with assistance from the police.
Adebayo said, โThe deceased, reportedly traveling from Ebute Ero, collided head-on with a fast-moving vehicle as it ascended Cater Bridge from Illubirin. The forceful impact of the collision led to the immediate death of the motorcyclist while vehicle driver ran away.
โPersonnel from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) promptly arrived at the scene of the accident and swiftly alerted officers from the Central Police Station at Adeniji Adele and Shemo.
โTogether, they coordinated efforts to retrieve the lifeless body of the rider, while LASTMA officials handed over the motorcycle to security authorities for further investigation.โ
Meanwhile, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed condolences to the deceasedโs family. He reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic laws, highlighting the prohibition of commercial motorcycles on highways and other restricted routes as mandated by the state government.
Bakare-Oki emphasized that non-compliance with these regulations not only endangers the lives of the riders but also poses risks to other road users.
