The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has denied claims circulating on social media that officers from the Kubwa Police Division unlawfully arrested and detained a minor.
In a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, the command said the reports were misleading, asserting that the police acted within the law by enforcing a court order.
“The FCT Police Command has become aware of misleading rumours circulating on social media about the alleged arrest and unlawful detention of a minor by officers from the Kubwa Police Division,” Adeh stated.
According to the police, the incident occurred on October 16, 2024, when the Senior Magistrate Court in Dutse Alhaji issued an order for delivery to the residence of Ann Fornchor on Henry Nweke Street, Gberango Layout in Kubwa. However, during the process, court officials were confronted and assaulted by Deborah Fornchor.
“As a result of this incident, the Court authorised a warrant for the arrest of Deborah Fornchor for assaulting court personnel,” Adeh explained.
The FCT Police, following the court’s directive, apprehended Deborah Fornchor and handed her over to the court authorities, where she remains in custody pending further proceedings.
“All actions taken were in strict compliance with legal procedures and court directives,” the police spokesperson emphasised.
The statement also reaffirmed the FCT Police Command’s commitment to public safety.
