The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has recommended the expulsion of former Governor Ayodele Fayose for allegedly working against the party’s interests.
Dare Adeleke, the PDP Caretaker Chairman in the state, announced this during a press briefing on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti.
Adeleke explained that the recommendation for Fayose’s expulsion was submitted to the Tom Ikimi-led Disciplinary Panel and the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Reconciliation Committee. He accused Fayose of engaging in anti-party activities, including publicly endorsing Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which he said has embarrassed the PDP and misrepresented the party’s values.
“It is with deep concern that I must address the anti-party activities of Ayo Fayose and his cohorts,” Adeleke said. “His public declarations and serial endorsements of the opposition are a direct affront to the values and unity of our great party.”
He urged the PDP national leadership to expel Fayose and his allies, warning that keeping them in the party would be harmful, as they no longer seem loyal to the PDP.
“We are pleased to say Fayose is no longer a member of PDP. So, whatever he says, he is saying it to massage the ego of his boss and paymaster, Governor Oyebanji.”
Adeleke also highlighted Fayose’s legal actions against the PDP, revealing that the former governor had filed four separate cases against the caretaker committee within two months of its formation.
“He has taken the caretaker committee to court four times… solely to weaken PDP at the instance of his paymaster,” he added.
Adeleke criticised Fayose for allegedly prioritising personal gain over the party’s interests.
“Mr Fayose is a survivalist… He withdrew his child from the PDP race to support the APC based on material gain. Will you take such a person seriously?”
He concluded by encouraging Fayose to officially leave the PDP, rather than continue aligning himself with the APC.
“I strongly condemn these actions and encourage him to take the bold and honest step of officially decamping rather than openly aligning himself with an opposing party,” Adeleke said.
