President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Wednesday announced restructuring of some ministry for easy administration. Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the president approved the scraping of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and the Ministry of Sports Development.
He said the abolished Niger Delta Affair has been replaced by a new Ministry of Regional Development to oversee various regional commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The National Sports Commission will now handle sports governance.
He said FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
“President Tinubu and Federal Executive Council scrap Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of sports development. There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission , North East Development Commission.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.
“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.
The decisions were taken today at the meeting of Federal Executive Council in Abuja.”
Before the new announcement, Senator John Owan Enoh, held sway as the Minister of Sports Development, but has been under fire after Nigeria’s disastrous outing at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Senator Enoh’s effort at explaining the country’s recent sporting failures has hit brickwall, despite his Tuesday October 22, 2024 appearance before the House of Representatives Committee on Sports.
