Rivers Police Confirm Helicopter Crash Off Coast, Eight Feared Dead

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a tragic helicopter crash that occurred today, resulting in the feared loss of eight lives.

According to a statement signed by SP Grace Iringe-Koko,ย  Police Public Relations Officer, Rivers State Police Command, the incident involved a helicopter with call sign number 5N-BQG (S76C+), operated by East Wing Aviation.

The helicopter departed from the NAF Base in Port Harcourt, bound for Nuim Antan OML123 fields, carrying two crew members and six passengers. At approximately 11 am, it ditched into the ocean near Antan Producing Limitedโ€™s Mimbo platform and FPSO.

Mr. Ifeanyi Udogwu, a staff member of Antan Producing Limited, Port Harcourt, reported the incident to the Command. The Marine Division of the Rivers State Police Command is currently collaborating with other agencies to recover the aircraft and its occupants.

โ€œThe Rivers State Police Command is working tirelessly with relevant stakeholders to ensure a swift and thorough investigation into this tragic incident,โ€ SP Iringe-Koko stated.

The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has also confirmed the incident.

The Command extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims during this difficult time.

โ€œThe Rivers State Police Command commiserates with the families and loved ones of those affected and assures that everything possible will be done to support them,โ€ SP Iringe-Koko added.
