The Borno State Police Command has apprehended six notorious kidnappers and armed robbers who have been terrorising the Magumeri and Konduga Local Government Areas.
This operation was detailed in a statement released on Saturday by Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso.
The police recovered approximately ₦2,637,000 from the suspects, who had also been extorting money from villagers under the guise of tax collection.
According to the statement, the suspects have admitted to their involvement in these crimes and are set to face charges in court.
“On 25th October 2024, following a credible tip-off, the Command Crack Squad coordinated a covert operation in Chingowa Village, Konduga LGA, and arrested the following suspects: Modu Bindimi, male, 26 years; Koso Modu Gana, male, 24 years; Kassim Bulama, male, 27 years; Isah Muhammed, male, 21 years; Zarami Fantami, male, 22 years; and Modu Bunu, male, 24 years. They were found in possession of one pump-action gun, one live cartridge, and ₦2,637,000 in cash,” the statement detailed.
It further revealed that the syndicate was responsible for armed robbery and kidnapping in the targeted LGAs, as well as extorting villagers by falsely claiming to collect taxes to spare them from criminal activities.
“The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged in court following discreet investigation,” the statement added.
In conclusion, Daso noted, “The Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu, reaffirms the Command’s commitment to maintaining public safety and security and appeals to members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the emergency contacts, including 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.”
