KANO: NNPP wins local government election

THE New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has claimed a decisive victory in the recent local government elections, winning all chairmanship and councillorship seats across Kano Stateโ€™s 44 local government areas.

This outcome was announced by Sani Malumfashi, Chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), who declared the NNPP victorious in each local government contest held.

The election, conducted peacefully across the state, saw participation from six political parties.

During a press briefing, Malumfashi commended the smooth conduct of the election, emphasizing that no incidents of violence or electoral malpractice were reported.

โ€œWe are pleased to announce that the NNPP has won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the 44 local government areas. The election proceeded transparently and orderly, with no reports of violence,โ€ he stated.

Observers have commended the election as a milestone for Kano State, noting the efficient organization and security measures that ensured an incident-free process.

The election went ahead after prolonged legal challenges aimed at halting it.

Yesterday, the Kano State High Court authorized KANSIEC to proceed with the elections, dismissing attempts by political parties to block the exercise.

Justice Sanusi Maโ€™aji, presiding over the case, ruled that KANSIEC has constitutional authority to conduct, supervise, and oversee local government elections in Kanoโ€™s 44 local government areas.

The case had been brought by KANSIEC against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and 13 other political parties.

Reports reveal that local vigilante groups and officials from the Kano Road Transport Agency (Karota) provided security at polling units.

This comes after the Kano State Police Command complied with a court order barring them from participating in the election.
