Rivers Assembly Directs Julius Berger To Fix Alternative Routes To P’Harcourt Ring Road

… Pays Tribute To Bonny Helicopter Crash Victims

The Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule has instructed Julius Berger PLC to undertake remedial repairs on alternative routes to the Port Harcourt Ring Road, addressing the challenges faced by residents due to the ongoing construction.

The assembly’s directive aimed to alleviate traffic congestion and ensure smoother commuter travel.

Deeply concerned about the sufferings of residents of the State, occasioned by the ongoing construction of the Port Harcourt Ring-Road, the Assembly on Friday, at its 64th Legislative Sitting of the Second Session of the Tenth Assembly, directed the firm in charge of the construction to carry out remedial repairs on the alternative routes designated for motorists.

The directive was given while resolving a Motion moved by the Chairman, of the House Committee on Works, Hon. Emilia Amadi. Moving the Motion, Hon. Amadi recalled that in the 2023 fiscal year, the House approved a supplementary Appropriation for the execution of the Ring Road, stating that while the contractor, Julius Berger designated some roads as alternative routes to ease vehicular movements and alleviate the difficulties experienced by motorists, these alternative routes have become deplorable due to high vehicular traffic, leading to loss of man-hour; and urged her Colleagues to resolve in the affirmative on the prayers of the Motion.

Members contributed to the Motion positively, emphasizing the need for remedial repairs on those designated alternative roads.

Commenting on the Motion, the Speaker, Amaewhule, averred that the prayers of the Motion are well intended, and mandated the House Committee on Works to interface with the contractors and ensure that the resolutions of the House are implemented.

Earlier, the Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, speaking under a statement by the Leader, drew the attention of the House to the fatal helicopter crash within the Bonny axis in Rivers State that reportedly claimed the lives of six persons.

Moved by the unfortunate incident the House resolved to hold a minute silence in honour of the victims and prayed God to give the families the fortitude to bear the pains.
