THE Federal Government has urged state governments that have not yet adopted the new National Minimum Wage Act to begin disbursing the new minimum wage of N70,000.
Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu yesterday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, commended the states that have already begun paying workers the updated minimum wage.
Akume stated, “The matter of the new minimum wage has always been a priority for President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which is why a tripartite arrangement was swiftly established to address all related issues, and this process was conducted effectively.
“All stakeholders were involved: the governors, the Federal Government, and the Organised Private Sector contributed to the discussions that led to the establishment of the new minimum wage.
“We are very pleased with the outcome. Some state governments have already begun implementation, and some have even set wages above N70,000. Therefore, I believe there should be no issues arising from this.
“We commend those states that have started the payment and sincerely appeal to those yet to begin to take action and implement the payments.”
