Ilorin: Newlywed woman files for divorce after 1 year over marital issues

On Tuesday, Kafilat AbdulLateef asked the Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, to dissolve her one-year-old marriage to Bukoye Abdullateef. Residing in Offa Local Government Area, Kafilat explained to the court that she no longer wished to continue the marriage, citing a lack of love and care from her husband.

She requested custody of their only child and a monthly support payment of N50,000. Bukoye, however, expressed his desire to keep the marriage intact, saying he did not want a divorce.

Presiding Judge Toyin Aluko observed that it was โ€œdisturbing whenever young couples new in marriage seek divorceโ€ and encouraged both parties to work toward tolerance and peaceful coexistence. The case was adjourned until January 14 for a settlement report.
