Hon. Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, a House of Representatives member for Aba North and South in Abia State, appeared before an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court in Kuje on Wednesday, facing charges of assault, abuse of office, and threats to a Bolt driver.

Ikwechegh pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by the Nigerian Police Force.

Following his plea, the prosecutor, Mr. A. Umar, requested a date to begin a full trial.

Meanwhile, Ikwechegh’s defence counsel sought bail, arguing that the charges were bailable and that his client’s right to a presumption of innocence was protected by the 1999 Constitution.
