The Nigerian Senate has confirmed President Bola Tinubu’s seven new ministerial nominees after screening them during a session in the red chamber on Wednesday.
The screening, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed and then held with a suspension of Senate rules to expedite the process.
The first nominee reviewed was Nentawe Yilwatda, who has been designated to replace Betta Edu as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Following Yilwatda, other nominees were screened, including Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi as Minister of Labour and Employment, and Jumoke Oduwole as Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment.
Also confirmed were Idi Maiha as the Minister of Livestock Development, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
Throughout the screening, the Senate questioned each nominee on their proposed plans and strategies for managing their designated ministries.
The nominees responded satisfactorily, leading to the Senate’s confirmation of all appointments.
This confirmation follows President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle last week, in which he removed five ministers, reassigned 10 to new roles, and appointed seven new ministers pending Senate approval.
