THE Senate has approved the appointments of all seven ministerial nominees put forth by President Bola Tinubu, which were submitted to the upper chamber last week for expedited consideration.
This follows a screening session conducted by the Senate today, which took place in the red chamber after being postponed yesterday.
To accommodate the ministerial nominees, the Senate suspended its usual rules.
The screening process began with Nentawe Yilwatda, who has been nominated to succeed Betta Edu as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The Senate then proceeded to screen the other nominees, including Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu for Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi for Minister of Labour and Employment, and Jumoke Oduwole for Minister of Industry.
Also evaluated were Idi Maiha as the Minister for the newly established Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.
Each nominee was questioned about effectively managing their respective ministries, and they responded satisfactorily, leading to their confirmations by the Senators.
Last Wednesday, President Tinubu had dismissed five ministers, reassigned ten to new portfolios, and nominated seven new ministers for Senate confirmation.
Those terminated included Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education), Abdullahi Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Jamila Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).
Among those reassigned was Yusuf Sununu, who transitioned from Minister of State for Education to Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
Olatunji Alausa was moved from Minister of State for Health to Minister of Education, while Bello Goronyo moved from Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation to Minister of State for Works.
Abubakar Momoh was relieved from his role as Minister of Niger Delta Development and reassigned as Minister of Regional Development.
Uba Maigari Ahmadu was also reassigned from Minister of State for Steel Development to Minister of State for Regional Development.
Doris Uzoka-Anite, previously the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, was designated as Minister of State for Finance, supporting the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.
Sports Minister John Enoh was reassigned as Minister of State for Trade and Investment, while Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim transitioned from Minister of State for Police Affairs to Minister of Women Affairs.
Ayodele Olawande was promoted to Minister of Youth Development from his former position as Minister of State for Youth Development, and Iziak Salako, Minister of State for Environment, was moved to Minister of State for Health.
