President Bola Tinubu emphasized the importance of leveraging Nigeria’s long-standing relations with France, China, and Denmark to achieve economic benefits for citizens, particularly in education, health, and infrastructure.
He made this assertion during a ceremony in Abuja where he received Letters of Credence from the new ambassadors of these countries.
In his remarks, Tinubu expressed his commitment to expanding economic diplomacy and assured the French Ambassador, Marc Fonbaustier, that the friendship between Nigeria and France should translate into tangible benefits for their citizens.
He stated, “Macron has been a good friend over many years, and I am looking forward to the State Visit in Paris to solidify our relationship and ensure that our citizens also share in the gains of diplomacy between both countries.”
The President also highlighted Nigeria’s strategic position in Africa, stating, “You are not a stranger in Africa from your background. Nigeria is the biggest country on the continent, and the headquarters of ECOWAS is based here. We have an open-door policy, and we want your investors to take advantage of it.”
He urged for French support in ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening institutions and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
Ambassador Fonbaustier praised Tinubu’s achievements and reiterated his commitment to enhancing the partnership between the two nations.
“Mr. President, I must praise and express my admiration for your achievements. You have taken a bold step in developing the country, and I encourage you to stand and do the right thing for Nigeria,” he remarked.
In a separate meeting with the Chinese Ambassador, Yu Dunhai, President Tinubu reflected on his recent state visit to Beijing and expressed gratitude for the hospitality received.
He urged for the swift activation of agreements signed during his visit, stating, “I enjoyed my visit to China, and I particularly look forward to the activation of all the agreements we signed, especially on trade and economic progress for both countries.”
Ambassador Yu highlighted ongoing initiatives between China and Nigeria, including programs aimed at improving agricultural yields and enhancing vocational skills.
“Your visit was a great success, and your presence resonated very well. It was a milestone in our bilateral relations,” Yu noted.
Finally, while welcoming the Danish Ambassador, Jens Ole Bach Hansen, Tinubu expressed his desire for improved cooperation in areas such as democratic values, human rights, education, and healthcare.
He stated, “We are interested in education, Medicare, and areas that directly impact the livelihood of our people. Nigeria is good for business, and we want to continue to promote that aspect.”
Ambassador Hansen affirmed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria, recognizing its influential role on the continent.
“We recognize your influence globally and regionally, and we will continue to cooperate and expand relations with Nigeria, especially in areas of trade and economy,” he said.
Through these diplomatic engagements, President Tinubu aims to foster stronger economic ties that will benefit the Nigerian populace and enhance development across key sectors.
