Real Sociedad battle Chelsea, Aston Villa, Newcastle for €25m Nigerian gem who nearly joined Real Madrid

Real Sociedad have entered the race to sign Getafe midfielder Chrisantus Uche, joining Premier League clubs Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United in the pursuit of the talented 21-year-old, Soccernet.ng reports.

Uche, who moved to Getafe in the summer for a modest fee of €500,000, has quickly become a standout in La Liga, capturing the attention of major European clubs with his exceptional play.

The young midfielder’s performances have turned heads across Spain, where his aggressive, dynamic style has made him one of the league’s most fouled players, suffering 32 fouls in just 11 games this season.

Although he has only one goal, scored in Getafe’s season opener against Athletic Club, his impact has been felt well beyond the scoresheet, making him a crucial player in Getafe’s midfield.

Real Sociedad were reportedly close to signing Uche at the start of the season, and they may reignite their interest in the winter, according to Fichajes.

Uche’s appeal has not been limited to La Liga.

With a release clause of €25 million — a relative bargain in today’s market — the midfielder has also drawn interest from Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Newcastle United.

His versatility as a box-to-box midfielder adds to his appeal, especially in the Premier League, where his combative style and playmaking abilities would be highly prized.

Owerri-born Uche, who nearly joined Real Madrid before making the switch to Getafe, is already being recommended for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.

As the winter transfer window approaches, Uche’s future is set to be a hot topic, with Real Sociedad leading the charge for a potential transfer.
