Manchester United confirm Ruben Amorim appointment as new manager

Manchester United have officially announced Ruben Amorim as their new manager, Soccernet.football reports.

Amorim was chosen as the top candidate to replace former manager Erik ten Hag, who was dismissed last month. To secure his move to Old Trafford, United activated his โ‚ฌ10m release clause.

Additionally, the Red Devils reportedly paid an extra โ‚ฌ1m as compensation to Sporting to waive Amorimโ€™s 30-day notice period. He will, however, continue with the Portuguese club until the November international break.

An official statement on the clubโ€™s website reads: โ€œManchester United is delighted to announce the appointment of Ruben Amorim as Head Coach of the menโ€™s first team, subject to work visa requirements.

โ€œHe will join until June 2027 with a club option of an additional year, once he has fulfilled his obligations to his current club. He will join Manchester United on Monday 11 November.

โ€œRuben is one of the most exciting and highly rated young coaches in European football. Highly decorated as both a player and coach, his titles include winning the Primeira Liga twice in Portugal with Sporting CP; the first of which was the clubโ€™s first title in 19 years.

โ€œRuud van Nistelrooy will continue to take charge of the team until Ruben joins.โ€

On his decision to join the 13-time Premier League winners, Amorim explained that he nursed a desire to prove himself at the highest level.

โ€œI think all coaches need that,โ€ he explained. โ€œI think that in everyoneโ€™s life, and in yours [journalists] too, there are times when we are doing very well in life but we are missing something or we want something or to prove something.

โ€œAnd we have to take a step forward in things that destabilize us, that we donโ€™t know if it will work or not, if we are or are not ruining what is good about us, but I think everyone feels that.

โ€œYou and coaches go through the same thing in your life.โ€
